Impact of modern technology on the cultural identity of secondary school students, Puno, Peru
Abstract
The general objective of this study was to determine the impact of modern technology on the cultural identity of students at Comercial 45 School in Puno. In terms of methodology, the study employed a quantitative approach using a non-experimental cross-sectional design and a hypothetical-deductive method. The study encompassed a population of 975 students, with a stratified probability sample of 276 students. The results showed that 54.3% of the students exhibited a moderate level of technology use associated with a similarly moderate level of cultural identity. Spearman’s Rho test yielded a coefficient of 0.157, indicating a weak positive relationship. Consequently, technology has not brought about drastic negative changes in identity; on the contrary, it has fostered a balanced coexistence. The results led to the conclusion that technological progress did not lead to a loss of cultural identity in the Puno region of Peru.
