Logistical and operational performance of the supply chain in the poultry sector

Abstract

The objective of the research was to evaluate the logistical and operational performance of the supply chain in four companies in the poultry sector of the San Lorenzo canton, Ecuador. A mixed methodological approach was used that integrated documentary review, interviews with key informants and surveys applied to employees. Likewise, indicators were analyzed to evaluate logistics performance and weaknesses, opportunities, threats and strengths that condition the logistics performance of the poultry companies studied were identified. The results show a favorable operating performance, reflected in high levels of product quality, inventory accuracy and low return rates. However, limitations were identified in the formalization of processes, logistics planning, brand visibility and the use of working time. It is concluded that, although companies have operational efficiency, they need to strengthen their organizational and logistics management to improve their competitiveness.
