Cost accounting in inventory management and control in retail companies

Abstract
The objective of this research is to analyse how cost accounting contributes to the operational efficiency and inventory management of retail companies. A review of 20 papers was carried out. Revealing that cost accounting plays a conclusive role by adopting advanced methods such as Activity Based Costing (ABC) or Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). These methods enable accurate identification of costs associated with products and activities, facilitating accurate resource allocation and informed decisions. In the field of inventory management, cost accounting enables the accurate classification of products according to their value, strengthening strategic decision making. In conclusion, modern cost accounting emerges as a vital element to improve efficiency and management in retail companies in a highly competitive environment.
