Tourism and sustainable development in Latin America. A systematic review

Abstract
The objective of the research is to evaluate the relationship between tourism and sustainable development in Latin America through normative analysis, environmental conservation and community participation in the last five years. Based on the PRISMA protocol, 128 studies indexed in Scopus and SciELO were analyzed, prioritizing empirical evidence and public policy reviews. The results show a fragmented regulatory landscape, with moderate progress in countries such as Brazil, Ecuador and Peru, and more robust frameworks in Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia. Good practices of conservation and community participation are identified, such as biocultural tourism in Sarayaku (Ecuador), Afro-descendant co-management in Utría (Colombia) and scientific tourism in Mamirauá (Brazil), which have strengthened local capacities and reduced environmental pressures. It is concluded that tourism sustainability in the region depends on regulatory articulation, community inclusion and equitable distribution of benefits, proposing pragmatic public policies to consolidate more participatory models.
