Work stress and post-COVID depression in staff of El Corazón Basic Hospital, Cotopaxi, Ecuador
Abstract
The pandemic severely impacted the mental health of healthcare workers worldwide. The objective of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between work stress and post-COVID19 depression among the staff of Hospital Básico El Corazón in Pangua canton, Cotopaxi. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive-correlational design, 75 workers were surveyed using previously validated instruments. Among them, 93.3% presented work-related stress, with 52% experiencing very high levels. Furthermore, 90% showed anxiety or depression. To correlate the study variables, the logistic regression method was applied, showing significance (p=0.035) but a low correlation (Nagelkerke R² of 0.106). It is concluded that although there are high levels of post-pandemic stress and depression, there is no statistically strong correlation between the two variables studied. This suggests the need for targeted interventions for the staff.
