Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze municipal budget management through a systematic review. A qualitative, documentary-based approach was used as the methodology. To this end, the PRISMA statement was followed, which led to the systematic selection of 15 articles. In addition, techniques such as literature review and content analysis were used; also, data sheets and analysis matrices were employed as instruments. The results indicated that the implementation of appropriate strategies, sound budget management, strategic planning, the implementation of policies for sustainability, and the inclusion of citizen participation emerged as key factors in municipal governance. As a conclusion, municipal budget management requires an equitable and innovative process focused on the population’s needs for improving their quality of life.
