Economic efficiency in construction projects: cost accounting as a driver of change
Abstract
The application of cost accounting in construction projects provides the opportunity to carry out an effective value analysis in the industry. In this sense, the research focuses on addressing the question of how to achieve an effective determination of costs in construction companies to strengthen decision making. For this purpose, it is proposed to explore various accounting approaches and specific techniques currently used in the project costing process. The inductive methodology and the PRISMA guide guided the research process. The results highlight five applied costing methods, predominant in 15 investigations, including ABC costing and the PMI-based approach. The study concludes that the lack of consensus on the costing method applied at the regional level highlights the need to socialize the different accounting methodologies in order to adapt them to the particularities of each project and company.
